Today we went to film Lou Evans and the Derby Sands team as they prepared the opening of the wonderful new Memorial Garden in Derby, tucked away in a beautiful wooded area of Markeaton Crematorium.  Lou has been working hard to raise money for this for years and has been putting everything in place.

We're not revealing any pictures until after the official opening on Sunday, so that it's a surprise for the 300 - 500 guests that will be attending. But all their hard work has been worth it, it's a beautiful place for people to come and spend time remembering their babies. Especially those that lost their babies many years ago, and didn't have the opportunity to have a burial or cremation.

The memorial has been designed and made by Rachel Carter along with her team of land scapers, with Lou in close contact. Rachel was there today, to make the final preparations, helped along by Lou and Jean Wilkinson, who lost her daughter Charlotte in 1969, and for whom this garden will mean a great deal. Kelly Bolam who helps Lou run Derby Sands and lost her daughter Alice last year was also there to help get everything set up and ready along with Sheena Ratcliffe from the Bereavement Services. Matt, Lou's partner came to help when he had finished work and we had chance to have a bit more time talking to Lou and Matt together.

We don't want to give too much away until after the opening on Sunday, so we'll post lots of lovely pics and tell you more next week. The memorial opens to the public at 2pm on Sunday 29th June.

Our crew today were Director - Debbie Howard, Producer - Polly Perkins, Director of Photography - Emma Dalesman and Sound Recordist - David Mitchell.

We're very much looking forward to seeing the Memorial official opened and looking fantastic on Sunday and we want to say an absolutely massive "Well done" to Lou for getting this together, raising the money, overseeing the design and installation and creating this beautiful place for families to be able to come and have a place of peace and remembrance.
