It's a Wrap! Our final day of filming

So we have finished shooting! After over eighteen months of filming, and six months before that of pre production, we are fully shot. This is quite a landmark moment for us.

We are delighted to have had a wonderful day on which to end. We had finished shooting with all our families a few weeks ago, and Lou and Matt Evans were the final story line we needed to complete.

Lou has been working really hard for five years to open a Baby Memorial Garden in Derby, in her role as Chair of Derby Sands. Yesterday was the official opening of the garden. It was a fantastic day, a huge tribute to all the amazing work Lou has done. (see our previous blog when we filmed the preparations earlier this week). Even though it started to pour with rain just as the official opening happened, and stopped just afterwards, it didn't dampen anyone's enthusiasm and hundreds of people turned out to see Lou's wonderful work.

For us it was the perfect ending to Lou's and Matt's story and seeing them together at the end, with their son Finn and Lou's dad Dave, was heartwarming, knowing that they now enter the next phase of their lives together. Everything Lou has done is in memory of her daughter Lauren. Lou has helped so many other families because of what she herself experienced when she lost her daughter. This is testament to Lou's strength of character, love, compassion and determination. Always done with a brilliant sense of humour and a lot of warmth.

The Baby Memorial Garden is a beautiful place for families to come and remember their babies, especially those that don't have a grave or somewhere to visit because their babies were born as long ago as the 1940's when you didn't even get to see your baby. There were families there who still remember their babies born all those years ago, and now have a place to come and mark that.

The memorial garden is situated at Markeaton Crematorium.

Huge congratulations to Lou and her co workers at Derby Sands, and to the designer Rachel Carter who have an wonderful job of creating an oasis of peace and tranquility in a beautiful wooded area.
Our stills photographer, Jacqui Bellamy, has taken some fantastic photographs, but these won't be available until next week, so in the meantime you just have my pictures, but I'll post the others as soon as they are ready.
Our crew today were: Debbie Howard, Director, Colin Pons, Producer, Emma Dalesman and Leon Lockley, DoP's, David Mitchell, Sound Recordist and Jacqui Bellamy, stills.

So, our filming is complete. We now have six months of post production ahead of us, beginning with the edit. We are still desperately fundraising to raise the rest of the money to complete this phase, and every bit of support is welcome, so if you would like to make a donation to help us get the film finished, please see our donate page. There are great rewards for all donations, including tickets to come and see the film, copies of the film on DVD our gorgeous Still Loved forget me not seeds and lots of other lovely things. So please be part of our success and help us bring this film to your screens as soon as possible.
With great thanks to everyone who has helped us get this far - we couldn't have done it without you.

Derby  Sands Memorial preparation

Today we went to film Lou Evans and the Derby Sands team as they prepared the opening of the wonderful new Memorial Garden in Derby, tucked away in a beautiful wooded area of Markeaton Crematorium.  Lou has been working hard to raise money for this for years and has been putting everything in place.

We're not revealing any pictures until after the official opening on Sunday, so that it's a surprise for the 300 - 500 guests that will be attending. But all their hard work has been worth it, it's a beautiful place for people to come and spend time remembering their babies. Especially those that lost their babies many years ago, and didn't have the opportunity to have a burial or cremation.

Picture
The memorial has been designed and made by Rachel Carter along with her team of land scapers, with Lou in close contact. Rachel was there today, to make the final preparations, helped along by Lou and Jean Wilkinson, who lost her daughter Charlotte in 1969, and for whom this garden will mean a great deal. Kelly Bolam who helps Lou run Derby Sands and lost her daughter Alice last year was also there to help get everything set up and ready along with Sheena Ratcliffe from the Bereavement Services. Matt, Lou's partner came to help when he had finished work and we had chance to have a bit more time talking to Lou and Matt together.

Picture
We don't want to give too much away until after the opening on Sunday, so we'll post lots of lovely pics and tell you more next week. The memorial opens to the public at 2pm on Sunday 29th June.

Our crew today were Director - Debbie Howard, Producer - Polly Perkins, Director of Photography - Emma Dalesman and Sound Recordist - David Mitchell.

We're very much looking forward to seeing the Memorial official opened and looking fantastic on Sunday and we want to say an absolutely massive "Well done" to Lou for getting this together, raising the money, overseeing the design and installation and creating this beautiful place for families to be able to come and have a place of peace and remembrance.

Sheffield doc fest success

We've just spent a jam packed six days at the Sheffield International Documentary Festival, one of the best documentary festivals in the world, and it's right on our door step.

The festival was fantastic again this year, highlights being a trip out to watch the beautiful film Happiness in a cave, The Devil's Arse, in Hope Valley, a totally spectacular event, and seeing Love Is All in the beautiful grounds of Chatsworth, with a fantastic sound track from Sheffield's own Richard Hawley. I was also honoured to attend the John Pilger in Converation, such an inspiring man. There were loads of other fantastic events, masterclasses and films, way too many to even mention.

Picture
As well as all of this, we were very busy having lots of meetings about Still Loved, as well as making contact by chance at parties or having drinks in the bar and we're delighted to say that we were met with so much enthusiasm for the film, with very useful relationships being formed and much interest in what we're doing.

We had promising talks and forged good relationships with Dogwoof, Century Films, BBC Storyville, Together Films, We Are Colony, Molinare, The Wellcome Trust, Directors UK, Women in Film and TV UK, Women Make Movies and Espresso TV to name but a few. We also talked with Editors, Producers and Directors and will be following many on of these up now.

Picture
A team of four of us worked hard, splitting tasks and attending meetings and sessions to cover as much ground as we could. Director Debbie Howard, Producers Colin Pons and Polly Perkins and Assistant Producer Emily Axon managed to cover much of the festival between us, as well as leaving energy for a few parties as well.

We're really proud to host this fantastic festival in Sheffield, and it's great to be able to attend such a good event and still go home and sleep in your own bed at the end of a busy day.

Big thanks to everyone at the Doc Fest for such an amazing event, and to all the volunteers that work so hard to help this festival happen.

Lets hope the meetings become fruitful and great things happen now to help Still Loved get completed and on your screens as soon as possible.

In the meantime I'll be glued to the Doc Fest video tech watching all the films I didn't get time to see there!

Tomorrow is the beginning of the Sheffield International Documentary Festival 2014, an action packed six days of sensational screenings, fantastic films, marvellous masterclasses & wonderful workshops. Not to mention parties, networking, shmoozing and some pretty spectacular special events, films in caves and outdoor at the beautiful Chatsworth Estate.

Our team are at the ready to collect our passes first thing tomorrow morning. We have many meetings set up with companies interested in taking Still Loved forward to and after completion and promises to be a busy, but fun packed and exiting week ahead.

Since it's in our home town, four of us are attending, to cover all bases, films, sessions and meetings. Director Debbie Howard, Producers Polly Perkins and Colin Pons and assistant Producer Emily Axon will be armed with publicity and ready to talk business.

We'll report back on this important week of events and let you know how we get on.
